With #COP26 in progress it feels timely to mention With #COP26 in progress it feels timely to mention this amazing project we worked on this summer at @abandon_normal_devices . A binaural installation in the crew cabin of one of the last surviving Manchester Ship Canal tugs.

Featuring deep sea hydrophone recordings, the piece follows the journey of a shipping container and considers the impact of our hyper-consumerism on the underwater aquatic environment.

🎞 WELCOME BACK CINEMA 🎞 We’re so happy th 🎞 WELCOME BACK CINEMA 🎞

We’re so happy that cinema and indoor entertainment, arts and heritage venues can reopen in England today, and it got us thinking about an installation we created a few years ago.

We were commissioned by Eyeview (@eyeview_programme) to create Electric Sound Palace; a sound installation inside Paignton Picture House, a historic but currently unused cinema. Paignton Picture House opened in 1914, is believed to be the oldest surviving purpose-built cinema in Europe. In its early days it featured a 21-piece orchestra, with each member paid a guinea to perform.

Drawing on archive materials of Paignton Picture House Trust and local memories, we created a new site-specific work, inspired by the original accompanying orchestra, transporting audiences into an Electric Sound Palace. The work featured the Torbay Symphony Orchestra performing music from Beethoven and Shostakovich. Where the 21 piece orchestra once was, we installed 21 loudspeakers.

In collaboration with @themediaworkshopltd we re-introduced the live element, creating a “playable” orchestra which the audience controlled with their seats!

THE INVISIBLE SOUL IN A LANDSCAPE OF MEMORY
Post 7/22

STONED KNOWLEDGE & CHEMISTRY &
SMELL CODES FOR EQ

Para linguistics Phonetic Codes for EQ.
Each ROCK is coded with a Smell Molecule that each have proven generating an emotional reaction.
Each molecule is either amplified out of or added onto the stones.
Each Emotion is coded with a para phonetic code.

Growing data base on chemical communication and para codings.

Paralinguistic phonetics in the wider sense concerns those phenomena in speech that do not belong to language and its arbitrary conventional code, but which nevertheless play an important rôle in speech communication as a biological and social phenomenon.
My research is about the physiological and acoustic differences that can be observed between linguistically identical utterances produced by speakers as a function of their age, sex, and the type of phonation, vocal effort and speech rate they choose, as well as how the speech is affected by emotions and other factors.
An important aim consists in describing and explaining humans capacity to perceptually separate the different types of information in speech signals - linguistic, expressive, organic, and perspectival - from each other and still express the same emotion.

With all my respect to the humble and incredible human being Mr. Yang. This work is dedicated to your silenced LIFE.

Thank you:

🍳Cracking News for the Easter weekend. We’re 🍳Cracking News for the Easter weekend.

We’re delighted to announce that Aurelia Soundworks has been awarded further funding by @aceagrams as part of the @dcmsgovuk Culture Recovery Fund.

This allows us to keep working on some exciting projects that will finally get to launch later this year.

Is anyone else finding themselves being gently wok Is anyone else finding themselves being gently woken up by the sound of the dawn chorus at the moment? We’re enjoying the natural alarm clock shifting a few minutes earlier and earlier each day 🦉.

It has made us think back to a project we worked on for @daisyginsberg that exhibited just before the UK COVID-19 lockdown called #MachineAuguries.

Read on to find out more...

Light and sound pollution from our 24-hour urban lifestyle affects birds, who are singing earlier, louder, for longer, or at a higher pitch to communicate. But only those species that adapt survive. Machine Auguries questions how the city might sound with changing, homogenising, or diminishing bird populations.

Aurelia Soundworks worked with Daisy Ginsberg to conceive and sound design a multi-speaker installation which condenses a dawn chorus from 90 mins to 10 mins.  During the piece a natural dawn chorus is taken over by artificial birds, their calls generated using machine learning. Solo recordings of chiffchaffs, great tits, redstarts, robins, thrushes, and entire dawn choruses were used to train two neural networks, pitted against each other to sing (a Generative Adversarial Network, or GAN).

Reflecting on how birds develop their song from each other, a call and response of real and artificial birds spatialise the evolution of a new language. Samples taken from each stage in the GAN’s training revealing the artificial birds’ growing lifelikeness.
Looking back to this time in 2018, we were working Looking back to this time in 2018, we were working on @metmuseum Visitors to Versailles binaural sound experience. Three memories come up when we look at this picture taken at the recording location, Oldway Mansion in Devon:

🎙 It was an ace project to be part of, with a super creative team innovating the museum experience.

🎙 There was unexpected drama! The Met’s Editorial Manager got stuck in Dartington Hall as we perfectly timed location recording with the worst of the Beast From the East snow storm 🤷🏽

🎙 Chris looked considerably younger. He’d like to blame COVID-19 and the passage of time.
